Hey guys! I just dropped my 10,000 1-of-1 Generative Art NFT Collection Goodman Guitars and it’s available on Opensea! You can click the link here to come and check it out!
About the Collection
It’s a unique art collection and my first NFT drop where I figured out the entire process from creating the generative art to setting up the Smart Contracts on Polygon.
What Generative Art Actually Is
If you haven’t run into the term before, generative art is art made by combining parts with code. Instead of drawing 10,000 separate pictures, you create a set of layers, things like backgrounds, shapes and colors, and a script mixes them together. Every combination comes out a little different, which is how you end up with 10,000 pieces where each one is a one-of-one.
How I Built Goodman Guitars
I wanted to understand the whole process, not just hand off pieces of it, so I did every step myself.
Making the art
Everything starts with the artwork. Each guitar is built from separate parts that can be swapped in and out, so the art has to be designed with that in mind. Every part needs to line up and look good next to any other part it could be paired with. I drew every part in Adobe Illustrator and exported each one as a transparent PNG, so the layers could stack on top of each other.
Generating the collection
Once the layers were ready, a script combined them into 10,000 finished guitars. The goal is that no two pieces are exactly alike, which is what makes each one a true one-of-one.
Smart contracts on Polygon
The last technical step was setting up the smart contracts on Polygon. A smart contract is the code on the blockchain that creates the NFTs and records who owns each one. Polygon was the network I used for the collection. The images themselves were uploaded to IPFS, so the files live on decentralized storage instead of a single web server.
Listing on OpenSea
With the contracts in place, the collection went up on OpenSea, where people can browse and pick up individual guitars.
What I Learned
Doing it end to end taught me a lot about how NFT projects actually work behind the scenes, from the art side to the blockchain side. It’s the biggest of my personal projects, and you can see it alongside my photography on the personal projects page. I also do music under my solo project, which lives on the music page.
I hope you guys enjoy the art and I’ll let you know if/when the next NFT collection drops!
