RMIT University
A few projects completed during enrollment as well as a list of memorable completed classes.
Some classes taken during the course of the Bachelor’s in Marketing degree include service quality, B2B, retailing, advanced marketing, strategic marketing, research marketing, digital marketing, Integrated Marketing Communication, product innovation, and brand management.
What the coursework covered
The Bachelor’s in Marketing at RMIT University paired theory with hands-on builds. The two projects below came out of the retailing and digital marketing classes: an e-commerce mockup for H&M, and a blog that followed the weekly curriculum and was cross-posted to LinkedIn. The class list above covers the rest of the degree, from service quality and B2B to brand management.
The Project
I studied marketing at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) in Melbourne, Victoria, and graduated with my Bachelor of Arts in Marketing in February 2020. The two projects on this page are the ones I still point people to.
What I Did
An e-commerce mockup for H&M
For a retailing class, I built a mockup e-commerce site for H&M. The point was to show I could plan and build an online store, which means thinking about how shoppers browse and get to checkout, not just how the pages look.
A weekly digital marketing blog
For my digital marketing class, I kept a blog that followed each week’s topic and cross-posted the articles to LinkedIn. Writing every week forced me to actually understand the material. The blog on this site started the same way, with posts on topics from my RMIT coursework, beginning with The Journey Begins.
Classes that stuck
The classes I got the most out of were service quality, B2B, retailing, strategic marketing, marketing research, digital marketing, integrated marketing communication, product innovation and brand management. Service quality came up again later when I produced a service quality blueprint at Regulus Media Group. I wrote about that idea in the importance of a service quality blueprint.
Tools and Skills Used
Website building, blogging, LinkedIn publishing, marketing research, IMC planning and brand strategy.
What I Took Away
School gave me the frameworks: SWOT, IMC, service blueprints and the rest. Real jobs taught me how to use them on a budget and a deadline. I still reach for those frameworks when I plan a campaign. See the rest of my work on the projects page.
H&M Retail Website Mockup
This website was constructed for the purpose of demonstrating the ability to build an e-commerce website for a retailing class.
